Support for Scientific communities

Simulation and Data Labs

(JSC) has introduced a special form of high-level support structure: the Simulation and Data Laboratory (SDL). Around ten such teams have been established at JSC specializing in various disciplines including Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular Systems, Earth Science, Quantum Materials Science, Fluid Dynamics and Astrophysics. Their purpose is to assist user groups in refactoring domain-specific computational & data-intensive applications in order to enhance performance efficiency and scalability at all concurrency levels on modern, heterogeneous architectures.

The Jülich CECAM Node

Forschungszentrum Jülich is an active node within the Centre Europeen de Calcul Atomique et Moleculaire CECAM. The activities include workshops, tutorials and schools on computational methods as well as parallel computing and programming.

JuRSE, the Community of Practice for Research Software Engineering

JuRSE is a FZJ-wide initiative working to raise awareness, increase visibility and improve good practice for Research Software Engineering. We aim to promote the impact on research, highlighting the increasingly critical and valuable role research software engineering serves here. We believe that creating a community will lead to more recognition and professionalisation at the same time as helping those who do research software engineering to be part of a professional community of practice. LOFAR - Low frequency array

For the community astrophysics and astronomy, JSC operates one of Germany's LOFAR stations consisting of two antenna fields for measuring high and low frequencies.
