New CFCs Found in the Atmosphere
Scientists from IEK-7 and the University of East Anglia have found new, previously unexplored greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The researchers compared unpolluted air samples collected in Tasmania from 1978 to 2012 with air samples collected by commercial airliners in 2012 and 2013. Their analysis revealed three chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) that had not been detected or investigated in the past.
