Electrocatalysis (EK)

The electrocatalysis team is concerned with the fundamental investigation of electrocatalytic processes in low-temperature applications. Fields of interest include (alkaline) water electrolysis, fuel cells and the conversion of nitrogen-containing molecules, such as the electrosynthesis of ammonia.

For this purpose, individual electrochemical cells are developed and coupled with suitable analytics to detect both the electrode properties, changes in the reaction environment and the reaction products. In particular, the functionality of different catalyst materials is investigated as a function of the reaction environment. By selecting suitable materials and optimizing reaction parameters, the overall performance of an electrochemical reactor can be improved.
