Electrocatalysis & Electrosynthesis

The focus topic "Electrocatalysis and Electrosynthesis" deals with questions around next generation energy conversion for a sustainable energy vector. Starting from carbon dioxide separation via direct air capture and similar separation technologies the focus of the department is on the electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide to value added chemicals. To achieve higher system efficiencies for the carbon dioxide electro conversion and alkaline water electrolysis new systems and cells are developed in house.
To efficiently study processes along electrochemical conversion we develop analytical methods and testing technologies along the value chain. This is directly linked to the colleagues working on spectroscopy and modelling and supported with a LCA based analysis of the technology.
