Towards FAIR(er) Astrophysical Simulations

Abstract:

Reproducibility is a cornerstone of science, and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) data is vital to testing it. The implementation of FAIR principles in the astrophysical simulation community remains varied. Key obstacles include the vast datasets generated on HPC facilities, missing incentives to share codes and results, and a lack of workflows supporting data publication — challenges that particularly affect smaller research groups. We present actionable steps towards "FAIRer" data and open-source standards in numerical astrophysics, including low-threshold methods and basic tools for FAIR (meta-)data generation and code publication.
