Electric Vehicles

In the sub-project "Vehicle-to-Grid" (also known as V2G), electric vehicles of different types and charging infrastructures with advanced charging and discharging concepts are integrated into the energy system of the LLEC. In such a system, electric vehicles can be used, for example, as intermediate storage for surplus energy, e.g. when more electricity is generated by photovoltaics than is currently required due to strong solar radiation. In low-energy phases, the vehicle batteries can be discharged again and thus contribute to the grid stability of the energy system.

To enable V2G charging, we have purchased different research electric vehicles suitable for this purpose: A Nissan Leaf, a Nissan e-NV200 and a Honda e. In addition, a Tesla Model 3 will serve as a benchmark for fast charging applications.

Further research electric vehicles will be procured as part of the project. In a later project phase, the employees of the research center can also participate in bidirectional charging.
