Welcome to ICA: Our focus are Integrated Computing Architectures.
We research on future computing paradigms with the focus on integrated circuits.
Integrated Computing Architectures (ICA) is a scientific institute of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH performing research and innovation in different fields of Future Computing paradigms using semiconductor solutions to enable the scalability of novel computing approaches. This reaches from system modeling over implementations up to system integration of novel devices, like memristors and qubits to enable real applications to significantly advance today’s computing capabilities.
Integrated Circuits are a Key Enabling Technology:
Based on our broad experience within CMOS systems and circuits from the communication industry, integrated circuits are our key enabler to push the limits into new areas: Neuromorphic Computing and Quantum Computing.

On January 1st, 2025 the Central Institute of Engineering, Electronics and Analytics (ZEA) was reorganized and renamed into Institute of Technology and Engineering (ITE).
The Electronic Systems (ZEA-2) activities in the field of Future Computing were transferred to the newly founded ‘ICA - Integrated Computing Architectures’ department at the Peter Grünberg Institute (PGI-4). We as ICA mainly focus in our future work with our research in the field of new computing architectures, in particular in the areas of Quantum and Neuromorphic Computing.
