Prof. Ein-Eli's Sabbatical at IEK-9
Advancements in Battery Research, Including Titanium-Air Batteries

Prof. Yair Ein-Eli recently completed his sabbatical at IEK-9, where he supported us with his extensive expertise in energy storage and materials science. Prof. Ein-Eli graduated from Bar-Ilan University in 1995 and joined the Department of Materials Engineering at the Technion in 2001 after serving three years as the VP of R&D of Electric Fuel Ltd. (Israel). Prior to that, he was a post-doctoral fellow (1995-1998) at Covalent Assoc. Inc. (MA, USA). He served as Dean of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for four years, between 2018 and 2021. His research focuses on advanced materials for Li-ion batteries, alkaline batteries, metal-air cells, and fuel cells, as well as electroplating methods and corrosion inhibitors (https://caegroup.net.technion.ac.il/).
During his sabbatical, Prof. Ein-Eli collaborated with IEK-9 on advanced battery technologies, with a particular emphasis on Li-ion and metal-air batteries. His visit was highlighted by insightful discussions, collaborative experiments, and the exchange of innovative ideas, all of which have significantly enhanced our ongoing activities. Throughout his stay, he actively engaged with the members of our institute, offering fresh perspectives and fostering innovative research ideas, including the successful development and lab testing of a novel titanium-air battery—the first of its kind with published experimental results showcasing titanium as an active material.
