INM-4 Researchers Serve as Topic Editors

17th December 2024

Chang-Hoon Choi, N. Jon Shah, and Ferdinand Binkofski from INM-4 were recently invited by  the journal ‘Frontiers in Neuroscience’ to act as Topic Editors for the Research Topic ‘Exploration of the Human Brain using Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation’. This collection features studies exploring advanced methods and innovations using transcranial stimulation to investigate the human brain.

In addition to their editorial contributions, the researchers co-authored an original research article within the edition. The study, ‘A study of long-term GABA and high-energy phosphate alterations in the primary motor cortex using anodal tDCS and 1H/31P MR spectroscopy’, demonstrates the feasibility of measuring long-term modulation of GABA and high-energy phosphates in the brain. By targeting the left primary motor cortex (M1) with anodal tDCS, the research offers valuable insights into neuroplasticity and energy metabolism, with potential applications for clinical populations.

The team also contributed a related chapter to the book Biokybernetika, published by De Gruyter, titled ‘A magnetic resonance spectroscopy approach to quantitatively measure GABA and phosphorus level changes in the primary motor cortex elicited by transcranial direct current stimulation’. This chapter further explores the application of spectroscopy techniques in studying brain stimulation effects.
