Prof. Peter A. Grünberg was awarded honorary membership of the German Physics Society (DPG) at their Spring Conference in Dresden in March. DPG thus recognizes "his discovery of interlayer exchange coupling and giant magnetoresistance in thin transition metal layers arising from it, for which he received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2007 (together with Albert Fert, Paris) (...) as well as his publications, which helped to significantly increase the prestige in society at large of physics in Germany".
