- SONIC focuses on accelerating the discovery of new semiconductor materials for energy conversion applications by integrating high-throughput computational screening and modeling of organic and inorganic semiconductors with high-throughput, robot-assisted experimental workflows guided by a combination of chemical domain knowledge and artificial intelligence.
- SONIC integrates the efforts of two groups, exploring the spaces of molecular organic semiconductors, including HTLs, ETLs, active-layer semiconductors, and organic dielectric/interfacial layers (Organic Semiconductor Discovery Group) and inorganic semiconductors, including halide perovskites, quantum dots, and atomically thin 2D materials (Inorganic Semiconductor Discovery Group).
- SONIC ultimately aims to enable autonomous discovery of solution-processable semiconductor materials by providing a foundation and design principles for closed-loop iterative workflows, achieved by integrating machine-learning-based, data-driven decision-making policies with automated experimentation and data processing.
