Neue Afrika Strategie des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung gestartet
12. Dezember 2018. Am 12. November stellte das Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung offiziell seine neue Strategie für die Zusammenarbeit mit Afrikanischen Partnern vor. Bundesministerin für Bildung und Forschung, Anja Karliczek begrüßte die Anwesenden rund 300 Vertreter der deutschen Bildungs- und Forschungseinrichtungen, Industriepartner, Vertreter der verschiedenen afrikanischen Missionen in Deutschland sowie die Mitglieder der Presse. Gemeinsam mit der Kommissarin der Afrikanischen Union für Personal, Wissenschaft und Technologie, Frau Sarah Mbi Enow Anyang Agbor gab sie den Startschuss für die neue Strategie.

New BMBF African strategy launched
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) officially launched her African strategy at the BMBF main office in Berlin on Monday, 12 November 2018. In attendance were over 300 hundred persons from across the German education and research institutions, industry partners, representatives of the different African missions here in Germany and members of the press. The occasion was graced by the German Minister of Education and Research, Mrs. Anja Karliczek and the African Union commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology, Mrs. Sarah Mbi Enow Anyang Agbor.
In her speech, Mrs. Karliczek presented the highlights and achievements of the ministry regarding the implementation of the African strategy: 2014-2018. She described African challenges as global challenges that requires support from within and outside Africa to tackle. She stated that the BMBF is poised to provide support for African using the instrument of education and research, leveraging on the huge African potentials. The new African strategy sets new impetus for cooperation with Africa based on principle of partnership. It supports the creation of self-sustaining knowledge society in Africa with the young people as the main target. It is important to support translation of research result into sustainable development that directly makes impact on the lives of the people.
Basis for the new strategy:
The new strategy is built on the principle of partnership where both African institutions are also involved in synergy with other German ministries and agencies. This is why the guidelines for the new strategy have been developed in various workshops with African partners in line with the federal government priorities, in the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063 strategy. The new BMBF strategy
a. Creates prospects for the African people
b. Based on African needs and challenges
c. Offers German partners opportunity for collaboration
d. Supports the Internationalization of German education, science and research
Five fields of Actions:
The BMBF strategy for Africa will be implemented in five field of actions as follows:
a. Empower the people through higher education
b. Support knowledge transfer and innovation, contribute to growth and prosperity and improve economic prospects in partner countries
c. Research cooperation to contribute towards providing sustainable development as defined in the United Nationals Sustainable Development Goals
d. Increase impact through synergy with German and African partners
e. Strengthen employability of university graduates (focus on vocational education)
Budget:
Within the next four years, the BMBF plans to spend at least 300 million euros on the above five fields of action that promote German-African cooperation in education, science and research. The focus topics that will be addressed include:
a. Food needs
b. Climate change
c. Youth unemployment
d. Growing demand for Energy
e. Rapid urbanization
f. Health care
In line with the BMBF strategy for Africa, the Forschungszentrum Jülich perspective is being developed and will soon be launched.
