Shuying Chen successfully defended her PhD thesis in February 2025

We congratulate Shuying Chen on the successful defence of her PhD thesis 'Variable renewable energy potential estimates based on high-resolution regional atmospheric modelling over southern Africa'!

Especially in South Africa, where a large part of the population still has no access to electricity, meteorological data and renewable energy potential estimates are insufficient. Through her work, she made a valuable contribution to enhancing the accuracy of wind speed and surface radiation simulations, which were used to derive renewable energy potentials for southern Africa.

The work was undertaken in collaboration with the IBG-2, where Shuying Chen's work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Harrie-Jan Hendricks-Franssen.
