Dr Stefan Vögele is Professor of Energy System Modelling at TU Bergakademie Freiberg and also heads the Socioeconomics Department at Jülich System Analysis (ICE-2).

He studied economics at Heidelberg University and earned his doctorate in energy economics. He has been conducting research at Forschungszentrum Jülich since 2000, having previously worked at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW). His work focuses on the socio-economic analysis of transformation pathways towards a sustainable energy system.

He pays particular attention to the development and application of scenario and modelling approaches that support political and social decision-making processes. These include macroeconomic models, regional structural models, and qualitative methods such as cross-impact balance analysis.

At the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, he teaches students the methodological basics of energy system modelling and scenario assessment – with the aim of providing future decision-makers with a sound methodological foundation for the challenges of the energy and climate transition.
