The “Radiation Protection” team is responsible for radiation protection. It is therefore responsible for protecting employees and the environment from potentially harmful exposure to ionizing radiation or radioactive substances. The area of activity extends to all control areas of INM-5 and includes a variety of general and special tasks, such as carrying out measurement routines and contamination checks as well as dose monitoring of employees. Other important tasks include instruction and training in the safe handling of radioactive substances, supervision of external companies and monitoring compliance with all applicable regulations. The Radiation Protection team is also responsible for preparing documentation and licensing documents as well as supervising periodic inspections.

The “Nuclide Production and Targetry” team is primarily responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the technical infrastructure and the construction of irradiation facilities and target developments for the cyclotron. In addition to the design and planning of new components, the development of new target systems in collaboration with internal and external partners is a new focus. The new developments on the experimental beamline of the Cyclone 30XP are particularly noteworthy here. Increasingly, irradiation experiments are to be carried out there for cooperation partners, which are to be used to measure nuclear reaction data as well as for activation studies and materials research. The development of large-scale production targets for radionuclides with high clinical relevance will also be an important field of work. The team primarily supports researchers in the development of production processes for radionuclides in order to obtain them in high activity quantities and corresponding radionuclide purities.

The “Scientific IT and Research Data Management” team is responsible for the smooth operation of computerized systems in research, analytics and radiopharmaceutical production. In these areas in particular, the strict GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines for handling and documentation must be observed. In addition, new technical solutions are to be identified, developed and introduced to simplify or supplement the processes at the institute. These include the introduction of an adapted research data management system in accordance with the FAIR Data principles and monitoring and control software for the operation of the new cyclotron building.
