About

Our team focuses on technologies for the synthesis of the chemical hydrogen carriers methanol (MeOH), dimethyl ether (DME), and synthetic natural gas (SNG). In CO2 based systems, as they are required in a sustainable hydrogen economy, the load flexibility of the process becomes important. Key research issues include process design to enable deep part-load capabilities, rapid load changes, and to ensure catalyst stability and operability under varying load conditions. Another focus is the synthesis of these carriers from biogenic sources and waste streams as eligible carbon sources. Here, the main research questions are process optimization for decentralized applications.

Research Topics

  • Development of load-flexible carrier synthesis technologies
  • Development of processes and equipment for the synthesis of MeOH and DME from biogenic sources
  • Development of reactor designs optimized for load flexibility and decentralized applications
