About

Our team focuses on ammonia (NH3) as a hydrogen carrier. Although the synthesis of NH3 has long been established on an industrial scale, there are several technological questions regarding the production and use of green NH3. We are working on how these novel processes for the synthesis and cracking of green NH3 can look like in order to balance technical feasibility, economic viability and practical implementation. Our work includes the integration of the catalytic reactor with hydrogen production and re-electrification at different scales and application scenarios.

Research Topics

  • Design of optimal processes for the synthesis and cracking of green NH3 from decentralized to large-scale scenarios
  • Experimental qualification of catalysts for NH3 synthesis and cracking under relevant operating conditions (e.g. load flexibility)
  • Reactor and apparatus design based on integrated process development
  • Process integration of electrolysers in NH3 production and various options for re-electrification of NH3
