Conference Report: Societal Responses to Environmental Crises and Energy Transitions
ESA RN12 & Energy and Society Network Joint Conference in Kaunas, Lithuania

Our colleague Sally Springer form our Sustainable Life Cycles team attended the joint ESA RN12 mid-term and Energy and Society Network 7th international conference, which took place on 24–25 September 2025 at Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania.
The conference, titled “Societal Responses to Environmental Crises and Energy Transitions”, brought together researchers from across Europe to explore the social dimensions of sustainability transitions – including environmental justice, citizen engagement, vulnerability, and the role of science and technology in enabling change.
At the centre of our contribution lies the ambition to build stronger bridges between social science energy research and Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA). Events like this provide valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, explore synergies, and initiate new collaborations. In particular, the dialogue with researchers and doctoral candidates from other institutions highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary exchange as a catalyst for innovation.
