Despite theoretically high production rates, the successful implementation of many biotechnological processes in conventional reactors is hampered by the toxicity of substrates or products. To overcome these limitations, MK-ScaLoop is developing an innovative multiphase loop reactor that can be used to produce methyl ketones. This reactor is intended to reduce losses of valuable biomass and products and the associated reduction in efficiency. The development of a suitable process chain on an industrial scale (scale-up) and the assessment of ecological and economic impacts are being carried out prospectively by ICE-2 using life cycle costing (LCC) and life cycle assessment (LCA).
