Lab-2-Life Lab

About

Our group builds the bridge between controlled laboratory experiments and real-world applications of perovskite solar cells. We seek to understand how this promising photovoltaic technology performs under actual outdoor conditions.

In the lab, we can precisely study degradation processes under well-defined parameters such as temperature, humidity, and light exposure. The real challenge lies in translating these findings to the complex and variable environments in the field, where solar cells are expected to operate reliably for decades.

Our goal is to develop performance models of perovskite solar cells based on dynamic laboratory experiments and to validate them with outdoor data. A key aspect of this work is encapsulation: because perovskite solar cells are highly sensitive to their chemical environment and to moisture, this remains one of the central hurdles on the path toward long-term stability.

In today’s increasingly data-driven research landscape, we also explore how far the outdoor behavior of solar cells can be predicted from laboratory data using AI-based analysis methods.
