Central Library
The Central Library (ZB) at Forschungszentrum Jülich offers practical support relating to research data management (RDM).
What are research data?
Research data are a cornerstone of scientific work and can be either the subject or the result of a research process. They include measurement data, laboratory values, audiovisual information, texts, survey data, objects from collections, and samples that are created, developed, or analysed as part of scientific work. Research data may also include methodological test procedures such as questionnaires, software, models, and simulations, since these can also be central results of scientific research.
What is research data management?
Due to the fast-paced digital transformation and the increasing abundance of data, the handling and usage of research data is changing dramatically. A systematic approach to data management is therefore advisable as it helps to:
- gain a better overview of your project,
- facilitate the exchange of data and information,
- make data reusable for yourself and others in the future.
To this end, research data management comprises a variety of measures and methods.
