Your Code Matters: Share Your Experience in the JuRSE Survey

If you write code as part of your research at Forschungszentrum Jülich, we want to hear from you.

Whether coding is central to your work or something you do occasionally to analyze data or support experiments, your experience matters.

Research software plays a critical role in modern science, but we still know too little about the challenges, needs, and experiences of the people who create and maintain it at FZJ. The JuRSE Survey is an opportunity to change that.

By taking part, you'll help us better understand:

  • How coding fits into your research

  • The challenges you face when developing or maintaining software

  • What resources, training, or support would help you most

  • How we can strengthen the research software community across FZJ

Your feedback will help JuRSE develop more relevant training, events, services, and community initiatives—and advocate more effectively for the needs of researchers who code.

You don't need to be a Research Software Engineer to participate. If you write code as part of your research, no matter how small, we want to hear from you. Whether you're a PhD student writing your first scripts, a researcher developing analysis tools, or someone maintaining software used by an entire project, your perspective is valuable.

The survey takes about 10–15 minutes to complete. The results will be shared with the community in 2026, and your input will directly help shape future JuRSE activities and support.

At its core, JuRSE is about building a community of researchers who code. This survey helps us better understand who that community is, what challenges people face, and where opportunities exist to learn from and support one another.

If you code as part of your research, please take a few minutes to share your experience.

Take the JuRSE Survey today and help shape the future of research software support at FZJ.
