ICNS 2017: Poster Prize for Tobias Cronert

Tobias Cronert (JCNS-2) has been awarded a poster prize at the "International Conference on Neutron Scattering (ICNS) 2017" in Daejeon, South Korea. The poster on "Low dimensional thermal and cold finger moderator for the High Brilliance Neutron Source Jülich", put together with colleagues from Jülich, Aachen and Dresden, describes the current status of the cold neutron moderator, which aims to pave the way for a novel high-brilliance neutron source.

This type of installation could, in years and decades to come, fill the need for national or international medium-flux sources, thus bucking the ongoing trend towards the concentration of research with neutrons at just a handful of very powerful research facilities in Europe. Due to their exceptional efficiency, high-brilliance neutron sources could also be set up at universities, thus providing them with access to neutrons as microscopic probes for investigating new materials. At present, the cold neutron moderator is still in its test phase.
