We investigate structural and magnetic order as well as excitations in novel quantum-, nano- and functional materials. Challenging scientific problems are the drivers of our work developing new instruments, right through to designing novel high brilliance neutron sources.

Neutron Analytics for Energy Research (JCNS-3)

This division is in its founding phase. It will make neutron scattering and neutron analytics accessible to the research and improvement of materials, processes and systems of energy technology.

Neutron Methods (JCNS-4)

This division is in its founding phase. It is located at the largest outstation of JCNS at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum. JCNS-4 will open up an additional focus of research with neutrons and further strengthen cooperation between the MLZ partners. JCNS-4 organizes the instrument- and user-operation and coordinates method development at the MLZ outstation of JCNS.

The JCNS and its divisions are located in Jülich as well as at MLZ in Garching, ILL in Grenoble and SNS in Oak Ridge

Teaching

Following the "Jülich model" the JCNS directors hold a joint appointment at RWTH Aachen. We keep lectures and offer Bachelors, Master and PhD thesis in the research fields covered by the institutes. We also organize yearly schools and workshops on neutron scattering.
