Industry Liaison Office

The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) possesses unique competencies and instruments in the field of neutron analytics and scattering methods, both laboratory- and large-scale facility-based. In addition, it has specialized manufacturing techniques at its disposal along with experience in component development. In these areas of competence, JCNS is able to offer interested parties from industry and commercial institutions various models for accessing these special facilities. This can be, for example, within the framework of a collaboration, third party funding, or paid beam time.

Below is an overview of possible applications. Our staff will be pleased to provide you with more detailed information, answer your questions or discuss your ideas further.

Neutron analytics

Neutron analytical methods are ideally suited to determine the elemental composition of samples, for example from geology, environmental analysis, biology, pharmacy, cultural studies, archeology or industrial production, and all this is achieved non-destructively.

Examples of neutron analytical methods are prompt and delayed neutron activation analysis (P & D NAA), neutron depth profiling (NDP) and neutron imaging (NI).

Scattering methods

Neutron scattering is particularly suitable for determining the position and movement of light elements, e.g. in soft matter (hydrogen) or energy materials (e.g. hydrogen, lithium, sodium). Magnetic materials can also be characterized with excellent results.

The combination of x-ray and neutron scattering usually provides much more precise and detailed information than one method alone. At JCNS, we offer expertise and in some cases unique instrumentation for both x-ray and neutron scattering.

Component technology

We develop and build sophisticated instrumentation for condensed matter research, from single components to complete beam lines at large-scale facilities.

To this end, we have specialized production technology at our disposal and are happy to share our expertise with external companies.
