Every four years, the European community of scientists, experts, and engineers gathers for a week of discussions on the latest trends in neutron research and technology. The forum that brings them together, the European Conference on Neutron Scattering, was first organised more than two decades ago. For the first time, the League of Advanced European Neutron Sources (LENS), founded in 2018, has taken part in the ECNS 2019.

All nine LENS members from seven different countries participated in the ECNS 2019 from 30 June to 5 July in St. Petersburg (Russia) to present their latest research results and developments in the field of neutron science and technology. Until now, LENS members had only participated as individual facilities; this time they wore their LENS “hat”.

The LENS consortium was introduced to the audience in a prime slot during the opening ceremony followed by a plenary lecture on the European neutron landscape, given by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schmidt, Member of the Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich. The Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS) contributed a total of more than 20 talks, oral presentations and posters. Read the event report published by LENS.
