KFN Annual Meeting Held at the European Spallation Source in Lund, Sweden
14 July 2025
The 114th KFN meeting took place in Lund
The Committee Research with Neutrons (KFN) held its annual meeting on 10 July at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, following on from the International Conference on Neutron Scattering.
Director General Helmut Schober gave a tour of the facility to showcase the advanced stage of the entire project and to present the instruments built with German contributions, as well as technical masterpieces such as the Twister in the target arrangement, which was designed by Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Having achieved beam-on-dump earlier this year, German users are now eagerly awaiting beam-on-target and the first science experiments in 2026. KFN Chair Prof. Mirijam Zobel is delighted: ”The ESS will provide us with high brilliance and high temporal resolution for in-situ experiments, paving the way for unprecedented science in the years to come.”
