Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Georg Forster Research Fellowship for postdoctoral and experienced researchers contributing to sustainable development

The Georg Forster Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers highly-qualified researchers from developing and emerging countries the opportunity to conduct a self-chosen research project in Germany. The program is aimed at postdoctoral researchers as well as experienced researchers from all disciplines whose work contributes to sustainable development.
Eligibility (Excerpt):
- Target Group: Postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers from developing or emerging countries (see list of countries, PDF)
- Qualification: A doctorate completed with distinction, no more than 4 years ago (for postdoctoral researchers) or no more than 12 years ago (for experienced researchers)
- Research Focus: Projects with direct relevance to developing countries, contributing to the achievement of the 17 UN sustainable development goals
Fellowship Benefits:
- Duration:
- Postdoctoral researchers: 6 to 24 months (dividable into up to three stays)
- Experienced researchers: 6 to 18 months (dividable into up to three stays)
- Fellowship Amount:
- Postdoctoral researchers: €2,700 per month plus additional benefits
- Experienced researchers: €3,200 per month plus additional benefits
Application:
Applications can be submitted online to the Humboldt Foundation at any time. The Selection Committee meets in February, June, and October each year. Applications are usually processed within four to eight months.
