Short-Term Scholarships for graduates, doctoral researchers and PostDocs to participate in JSPS Summer Program in Japan – DAAD

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) provides opportunities for German graduates, doctoral researchers and PostDocs to receive an orientation on Japanese culture and research systems and to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutes over a period of two months during the summer (mid-June to mid-August).
Application requirements
- Advanced graduates in Master's degree programs who are aiming for a doctorate
- Doctoral researchers, if formal acceptance as a doctoral candidate can be proven
- PostDocs, if the doctorate was awarded no more than 6 years ago
Applicants must also meet one of the above requirements by the start of the program. Applicants who have already received funding as part of the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (standard) are not eligible to apply for this program.
Type of funding:
Two-month research stays between mid-June and mid-August, divided into two parts:
- Introductory course (Japanese language, culture, science policy)
- Research stay at selected research institution. List of possible hosting institutions you can find here.
JSPS short-term scholarships:
- International Travel (Round-trip Airfare)
- Maintenance Allowance (534,000 yen)
- Health and accident insurance
Selection procedere:
DAAD submits nominations to JSPS, which decides on the funding of proposed research stays in Japan.
