1st CHANGES Workshop
CHANGES stands for CHinese-AmericaN-German E-Science and cyberinfrastructure. Partners are CNIC-CAS from China, NCSA-UIUC from USA and Jülich Supercomputing Centre at Forschungszentrum Jülich from Germany. The first CHANGES workshop is a high-level platform to discuss latest trends in supercomputing, sophisticated information techniques and interdisciplinary applications.
Scope:
Three global players in supercomputing, the Chinese Computer Network Information Center (CNIC), the US-American National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and the German Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) together with their mother organisations Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) joint forces and reached an agreement about co-sponsoring a CHinese-AmericaN-German E-Science and cyberinfrastructure workshop (CHANGES). This workshop will be a high-level platform on Cyberinfrastructure and e-Science to discuss latest trends in supercomputing, sophisticated information techniques and interdisciplinary applications. In the past, the three institutions already had a couple of common bilateral cooperations and workshops, like the US-American-Chinese series ACCESS and the German-Chinese Workshop on Supercomputing (CHSC11). CHANGES, however, will not only consider the issues of the partner institutions but will also take into account national topics.
The first CHANGES workshop, which can be regarded as a successor of ACCESS and CHSC, will be held in Germany at Forschungszentrum Jülich from 3-5 September 2012. Participation in the workshop is by invitation only. The three sites will be local organizers alternately every year. The workshop provides a platform for trilateral cooperations on student exchange and mutual research projects. Moreover, it will cover several fields in supercomputing, e-Science and its applications in China, Germany and United States.
