Final Workshop on the BioSC FocusLab Transform2Bio on December 1, 2022, 10:00 am-4:00 pm, at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Lecture Hall of the Central Library

In the Rheinische Revier, the largest contiguous lignite mining area in Europe, a structural change has been initiated by the German government's decision to phase out coal in 2019, which offers a unique opportunity to shape regional implementation options towards a sustainable bioeconomy. The accompanying necessary transformations of existing resource systems, value networks, business models, infrastructures and governance systems formed the thematic framework for the BioSC FocusLab Transform2Bio.

From 2019 to 2022, the regional characteristics and strengths of the Rheinische Revier were analysed, possible transformation paths towards a sustainable bioeconomy were developed and the possibilities of involving various social groups were investigated. Valuable insights into regional transformation processes can be derived from the results. At the concluding workshop on December 1st, 2022, the results of all work packages will be presented and discussed with external guests.
