Agri-Photovoltaics (Agri-PV) involves installing solar panels over agricultural land. This allows these areas to be used twice: for agriculture and clean energy production.
Competition between food production and the provision of electricity is avoided. The growing conditions for the plants are even improved by shade and water management. This is an advantage in view of the growing world population and in the context of climate change and energy transition.
The plants are installed so that tractors or even combine harvesters can drive under them. Shade plants or plants that are sensitive to rain are suitable for cultivation under the solar plants. Even livestock can be raised under the solar arrays. Animals like to use the shade of the PV modules on hot summer days.
