In the transformation of the economy from fossil to renewable raw materials, the bioeconomy provides a contribution to solving one of the major social challenges of our time. Bioeconomic value creation concepts can support the structural change necessitated by the lignite phase-out.
Future viability is determined by a sustainable lifestyle and work style that conserves resources and protects the climate. For this reason, new opportunities for the mining region are to be implemented in the short, medium and long term, which will make the region attractive for the population as a living AND working region today and in the future. Based on today's strengths in economy, research and social perspective, the Rhineland lignite mining region shall be transformed into a bioeconomy Rhineland and thus become a lighthouse region for sustainable and circular bioeconomy in Germany, Europe and worldwide.
