Data Management
About
With the aim of "Environmental Research Infrastructures, providing FAIR data and services to society, innovation and research", the European research infrastructures for Earth system research joined forces in 2019 in the EU project ENVRI-FAIR. The aim was to bring together the data and products of these research infrastructures as a scientific basis for analysing the physical, chemical and biological processes of the Earth system, with the Global Observation Working Group coordinating and managing the project.
Following the successful completion of ENVRI-FAIR in summer 2023, IAGOS continues to play a key role in the follow-up projects ENVRI-Hub NEXT and OSCARS.
Research Topics
- Technical direction and participation in the ENVRI-Hub NEXT project
- Project partner and communication work in the OSCARS project

ENVRI-Hub NEXT
The aim of ENVRI-Hub NEXT is to expand and further develop the technical structure of the ENVRI-Hub, which was created as part of ENVRI-FAIR. The ENVRI-Hub is the central portal for environmental data and services offered by the European environmental research infrastructures. The data offered through the Hub is interoperable between the disciplines of the Earth system and therefore easy to use for interdisciplinary environmental research. The data is open to all and can be used freely by anyone interested. Users of the ENVRI-Hub can also utilise the virtual research environments and carry out their scientific calculations directly within the Hub. ENVRI-Hub NEXT pushes the boundaries of multidisciplinary environmental science by fostering operational synergies between ENVRI RIs and developing and utilising complementarities in the provision of their data and services.
OSCARS
The OSCARS project focusses on the dissemination and promotion of Open Science in Europe. The aim is to utilise data management strategies and practices according to the FAIR principles in all five science clusters. Today, these science clusters are an integral part of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) initiative and will continue to contribute to its development and implementation through OSCARS. Through a cascading funding mechanism, a broad range of research communities will be involved in the development of new, innovative open science projects that will collectively drive the adoption of FAIR data-intensive research across the European Research Area (ERA).
