Recognition for Outstanding Commitment to Cooperation Project

Simon Dohmen, Herbert Feilbach and Robert Swaczyna from Technical Services and Administration (PGI/JCNS-TA) at the Peter Grünberg Institute and the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science are being recognized for their special commitment to the cooperation project “Range Extender”. Forschungszentrum Jülich is acknowledging their dedication with prize money from the “Innovation Plus” programme, which aims over the long-term to strengthen Jülich’s innovative capabilities in the areas of licensing, spin-offs and collaborations with innovation as the central criterion.

The goal of the “Range Extender” project is the development of a technologically novel, flexible and easily implementable generator to extend the range of electric vehicles and which is less than half the size and weight of comparable systems. It can be used as a flexible supplementary module for various vehicles, reducing running costs for transport fleets, for instance. Until now, high costs and the limited range of electric vehicles have been the greatest obstacles to their broad acceptance. Other cooperation partners are ECC Automotive in Eschweiler and entec-engineering in Essen, as well as FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences.
