European neutron facilities come together for LENS General Assembly

The League of advanced European Neutron Sources (LENS) held its second General Assembly at Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France, on 23 October. This was preceded a day earlier by meetings between its five working groups and the LENS Executive Board. The meetings enabled the consortium’s operational working groups to come together with the leaders of the LENS member facilities to promote priority issues for the organisation in the coming months.

“Since the first General Assembly in March, the working groups have been extremely active and creative,” said Prof. Thomas Brückel, Director at JCNS, reporting on the optimistic mood that was apparent during the meeting. “There were so many excellent, imaginative proposals for collaborations between the different centres that we directors now have the difficult task of prioritizing them and providing them with the necessary resources.”

LENS is a not-for-profit consortium formed to foster cooperation between neutron infrastructure providers at a European level, offering transnational user programmes to external researchers. Forschungszentrum Jülich, with the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), is one of the nine current members of the consortium.
