27th Laboratory Course on Neutron Scattering in Jülich and Grenoble
25 September 2025
This year, the 27th Laboratory Course on Neutron Scattering, organized by the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), took place from 25 August – 05 September.
The main lecture programme was held at Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), Germany, while the experimental part, along with two additional lectures on Nuclear and Particle Physics and Imaging, was conducted at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble, France.

The course was financed by FZJ, with additional support from the EU Network of Excellence SoftComp and SwissNeutronics. Out of 240 applications, 35 participants were selected. Approximately 40% of the students came from international institutions across 11 countries, and 38% of the participants were women.
The first week of the course was dedicated to lectures and exercises. In the second week, participants carried out experiments using 24 world-class instruments at the ILL. In addition, seven scientific computing tutorials, including a “virtual experiment” session, highlighted the growing importance of computational methods in neutron scattering.
The collaboration between JCNS and ILL, together with the support of the local ILL teams, resulted in this year's Laboratory Course being a great success.
