Alexander von Humboldt Foundation - Feodor Lynen Research Fellowships for Postdocs

20 December 2021

The Feodor Lynen Research Fellowships for Postdocs granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation allows scientists from Germany who have above-average qualifications, are still at the beginning of their scientific career, and completed their doctoral degree no more than four years ago to participate in long research stays abroad. Applications are also welcome if the applicant is set to complete their doctoral degree in the immediate future (no earlier than six months before the completion date of the dissertation).

Summary of the key details:

Length of research stay: 6–24 months

Applying: Applications can be submitted online at any time. All the required documents should be sent off at least four to seven months before the scheduled selection date.
The selection committee meets in February, June, and October of each year.

Citizenship/residency: Applicants must either possess German citizenship or be working in science in Germany at the time when they make their application. In this case, they should already be integrated into the German scientific system and they should intend to return to the German scientific system after their planned research stay abroad.

In order for an application to be successful, the applicant must not have spent longer than a total of six months in the chosen destination country over the course of the past 18 months.
