Our mission
Research at the IBG-3: Institute Agrosphere aims to better understand and predict hydrological and biogeochemical processes in terrestrial systems. The focus is on agricultural and forestry systems, which are facing increasing pressure due to global change.
Key research activities include the investigation of biogeochemical cycles and the quantification of exchange processes and processes in the “critical zone” of the terrestrial system. The “critical zone” ranges from groundwater, soil and vegetation to the atmosphere.
Innovative observation technologies are coupled with laboratory experiments and modeling to investigate terrestrial processes of the critical zone on different scales (from the pore to the field to the continental scale) and thus contribute to a sustainable use of the natural resources water, soil and atmosphere.
IBG-3 is thus represented in all three research areas of Forschungszentrum Jülich: Energy, Information and Bioeconomy.
