From Spruce Forest Back to Mixed Deciduous Forest
Eifel national park: scientists examine impact of renaturation
Wahlerscheid/ Jülich, 11 July 2013 – The Eifel national park administration will start converting the spruce forest at the Wüstebach site, a small stream, into mixed deciduous forest in August 2013. For this reason, a team of scientists headed by Forschungszentrum Jülich took numerous soil samples in late June. The researchers will monitor the conversion during the next few years as part of the Terrestrial Environmental Observatories (TERENO) project. This long-term study carried out together with the national park administration and regional water associations will be the first to continuously investigate the impact of such a process on a habitat.
