Sustainability Assessment of Technologies
About
Different technology concepts are being discussed in the context of the transformation towards a sustainable energy system. With our Sustainability Assessment of Technologies team, we actively contribute to this discussion by assessing the sustainability of various technologies, concepts and systems with a view to the entire life cycle.
Research Topics
Our scientific work focus on technologies for reducing greenhouse gases, such as Direct Air Capture (DAC), Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), wind power and photovoltaics. This is completed by CO2 avoidance strategies such as Power-to-X, the central hydrogen technologies and associated derivatives are considered. In a further focus area, we examine the sustainability of strategies for the use of biogenic residues. The focus here is particularly on technologies at an early stage of development. The aim is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of new concepts in terms of their sustainability and thus provide information for technology development at an early stage.
