New sources of nutrients: root responses to by-products of Bioeconomy processes

Future agricultural and horticultural production systems have to fulfil the demand for being high yielding, sustainable, and resource efficient, including reduction of carbon emissions. IBG-2 aims to increase the resource efficiency of the complete cycle within plant production systems - so called, ‘closing the loop’. An important aspect is the ability of plant roots to use, and benefit from, by-products of bioeconomy processes.

The Alternative Biomass group and the Root Dynamics group are working together to understand root-novel substrate interactions.
