2026 FZJ-NST Joint Workshop
Cooperation with South Korea: Successful Two-Day Workshop on Energy, Bio, and Information
On April 16th and 17th, 2026, Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) hosted the 2026 FZJ-NST Joint Workshop. Held biennially and alternating between Germany and South Korea, this year’s event drew significant interest from the scientific community, with over 85 registrations and more than 70 researchers participating each day.

Following an official welcome by WTR Chairman Prof. Bernd Neumaier, attendees were provided with an insightful overview of the current state of German-Korean scientific cooperation and the core elements of the HEU program.
A key highlight of the first day was three compelling "best practice" presentations, which vividly illustrated the successful, long-standing partnership between Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST). Selected projects from the collaborations between IET-4 and KIST-Europe, IMD-3 and KIER, and IBI-3 and ETRI were showcased as prime examples of the innovative power and sustainability of these joint efforts. These contributions offered valuable insights into successful international collaboration and outlined concrete prospects for future projects.

The second day focused on the key themes of Energy, Bio, and Information. Through expert lectures and interactive discussion rounds, the participants examined current developments, central challenges, and innovative approaches within these fields.
The program was further complemented by morning and afternoon laboratory tours, which provided a behind-the-scenes look at research at FZJ while sparking ideas for future collaborations. Poster sessions held on both days offered additional space for in-depth discussions, professional exchange, and the initiation of new partnerships.

The workshop once again confirmed its role as a vital platform for scientific dialogue and international networking. A continuation of this event series is planned.

Special thanks go to all participating researchers and external guests, including representatives from the South Korean Embassy (Bonn branch). In particular, the approximately 25 participants who traveled from South Korea made a significant contribution to the international exchange.
