DAAD-Research Grants for Doctoral Researchers

The purpose of this program is to fund research stays abroad
as part of doctoral studies in Germany. The research stays can last one to twelve months. They can also be split up over the course of the year and take place in several countries.
What can be funded
Research projects abroad within the scope of a doctoral degree in Germany. If required, the research stay can be flexibly divided across:
- several host institutes in one country
- several countries
- several different periods of time
Application requirements
Applicants must be accepted to a German university at the time of application. If a formal acceptance has not yet been issued, proof of the assignment of a dissertation subject is sufficient.
At the time of application, no more than three years may have elapsed since the start of the doctoral program, unless exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated.
The next application period will run from May 2 to June 16, 2025, for scholarships beginning in December 2025.
