Detector Systems

We in the team Detector Systems are involved in the development of detectors and detector-specific read-out electronics for scientific applications.

The goal of the work is to integrate with own developments and generally available partial solutions, detector systems, which correspond to the specific physical requirements of the scientific experiments.

We conceive and develop detector systems for:

  • Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) experiments
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
  • Particle- and High-Energy Physics, e.g. data acquisition systems for Straw-Tube Trackers (STT)
  • System development for Single-Photon Counting and Charge-Integration X-ray or charge-particle (CCD based) cameras

Our applications


Solid-state scintillation detectors based on photomultiplier tubes (PMT) and/or Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM) for Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) experiments

Wavelenght-Shifting Fibers

Wavelength-Shifting Fiber (WLSF) based solutions for neutron scattering experiments with large detection areas

Detector modules

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) solid-state scintillation detector systems using digital SiPM technology for pre-clinical studies and applications in biology; also compatible with Magnet-Resonance Tomography (MRT) systems

Straw-Tube-Tracker Module

Data acquisition (DAQ) and controlling modules for detection of high-energy particles using Straw Tubes


System development: design, surface device mounting, and test of printed circuit boards (PCBs), development of the control-electronics, the signal and data processing units etc. for single-photon and charge integration X-ray and particle (CCD based) cameras
