Asma Semcheddine at Dynamics Days Europe 2025

Our Earth System Data Exploration (ESDE) research group member Asma Semcheddine recently attended the XLV Dynamics Days Europe 2025 conference, held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 23 to 27 June. Organised by the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, this long-established international forum brings together researchers working on the theory and applications of dynamical systems, with a strong focus on nonlinear science, machine learning, and scientific computing.

Asma presented a poster titled “The Effect of BERT Training on Atmospheric Data Interpolation,” which contributed to discussions around machine and deep learning approaches for modeling complex environmental processes. Her work attracted interest from participants who were particularly curious about the dataset and techniques employed, noting that the use of ERA5 reanalysis data proved valuable for others pursuing similar questions.

The conference offered an inspiring environment to exchange ideas across disciplines, and Asma returned with new perspectives on extending this research. In particular, she is considering the potential of leveraging the Weather Generator, an EU project developing a foundation model for weather forecasting, to simulate tropospheric transport processes in future studies.
