E-CAM Extended Software Development Workshop on Load Balancing Methods for Scalable Particle Simulations
Outline:
This is a second part of an Extended Software Development Workshop (ESDW), organised by the Center of Excellence E-CAM, which has a focus on load balancing methods for scalable particle codes on HPC architectures. The aim is to exchange ideas and approaches between developers of community codes, which might profit from load balancing methods. During the first part of the workshop, about 7 community codes were presented and discussion about necessary extensions of the codes were conducted. At JSC, the load balancing library ALL is being developed, which contains several methods, which can be used to balance the work between the processors. During the workshop there will be the opportunity to learn about ALL and to analyze and prepare specific user codes, to make use of the external library. Participation at the workshop is upon invitation, but there is also an introductory and overview session on the first day (Monday, 3 June, 14:00-17:00), where methods and experiences are presented and which is suitable for a broader audience. Therefore, also PhD students are invited to take part at this introductory part of the workshop. It is planned to have also a session on Wednesday, 5 June, on Performance Analysis, which is given by members of the Center of Excellence POP.
