Modular Supercomputing Architectures Seminar

Speaker: Ben Cumming, CSCS, Switzerland

The first half of this talk will focus on CSCS' experience porting applications to run on the GPU-enabled Piz Daint system that was installed in 2013. Over this time, CSCS has made a significant investment in software development targeted at performance portability.

The talk will then focus on Arbor, a library for simulating large networks of morphologically-detailed neurons, developed as a collaboration between CSCS and JSC. It will cover key software design decisions that enable performance portability between CPU and GPU architectures, and give examples of low-level GPU-specific optimizations.
