Leopoldina Early Career Award for Francesca Santoro
Our colleague Prof. Francesca Santoro received the prestigious Early Career Award 2022 [1, 2] on Friday, September 23, 2022 in Halle (Saale) during a ceremonial act [3] at the Annual Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina). The prize has been awarded every two years since 2010 and recognizes scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the field of the motto of the respective annual meeting, which this year was dedicated to the theme "Global Health: From Health Care to Climate Change and Social Justice". With this award, the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina recognizes Prof. Santoro’s research achievements in the field of bioelectronics and in the development of novel materials that can interact with the skin and the brain.
The Prize was presented by President of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina Prof. Gerald Haug [4] in presence of Academy Vice President Prof. Dr. Thomas Krieg and Chairman of Commerzbank Foundation Mr. Klaus-Peter Müller.
After the Award Ceremony the prize winner Francesca Santoro presented her award talk [5] on: “Body - machine interfaces: how bioelectronics can be used to cure skin and brain diseases”

About Leopoldina Early Career Prize
The "Leopoldina Early Career Award of the Commerzbank Foundation" has been awarded every two years since 2010 to scientists who have made outstanding achievements in the subject area of the Leopoldina annual meeting. In 2022 the event is dedicated to the topic "Global Health: From health services to climate change to social justice".
Academic work up to ten years after the doctorate is considered early career achievement. The prize, which is worth EUR 30,000, is sponsored by the Commerzbank Foundation. The 2022 award ceremony took place in Halle at the Leopoldina's annual meeting on September 23.
