Professor Eilenberger was head of the Institute of Solid State Research (IFF) at Forschungszentrum Jülich for over 30 years, and in his many functions, left his mark on IFF and Forschungszentrum Jülich. Even after he retired in 2001, the Hamburg-born professor continued to advise and support the institute and his colleagues. Until recently, he worked as an ombudsman at Jülich. He passed away after a short illness. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
